I was wondering what the term "Flangeway" means? I've heard it before but can't remember what it actually meant...

-Thanks

A flange way is the space between the gaurd rails on like a turn out or section of bridge track and the stock rail. They are intended to direct any derailed wheels should there be one at that location directed in the direction of travel and theirfor minimizing damage to a costly piece of Railroad equipment.
