Very good topic, soccer. I can't answer your question, but I do have one of my own. If anyone has any idea which different types of trucks were used on passenger cars during the late 30's and early 40's, the line I'm trying to model seems to use several different types on the same train, or was that a manufacturer thing?

Lionel made trucks with both types. It refers to how the bolster was connected to the side frames. They used both in the 50's and 60's but I do not remember which was finally chosen as the only type.
