I am just getting into model RR and chose N scale. I have a friend who is going to help do a layout (approx. 3x6). I have purchased a few freight lines from various mfgs. So far they are all great!

Now for the question. I have purchased some Rivarossi heavy weight passenger cars in the GM&O road name but am unsure as to what style engine would be period correct. I also need to know what type of couplers the Rivarossi cars have.

Any help would be appreciated!

For the GM&O. Various Early E and F units would be appropriet for use with the passenger cars. As for the couplers. I assume that they come equiped from the factory with "Rapido" type couplers.

the passenger cars I got from them came with 2 different styles of coupler. A set of Horn-hooks and a set that resembled a cross between a pintle-style tractor hitch and a jigsaw puzzle. One coupler is an odd-shaped ring, the other is a slightly rounded post; both have a metal ring that drops across the connection to prevent uncoupling, but they get difficult to use sometimes.
