Mike I'm running Lionel simply because it can be bought for $1.25 a section (and as low as $.85 on some websites.) If I could spend $3.50 -$4.00 per section I would buy Atlas in a heart beat. The difference in quality and appearance, IMHO, is worth the difference. Some day I'll change over.

Rochester NY's Historic PAL layouts use Lionel and K-Line on 3 of the 4 layouts, Gargraves on the 4th. They use a black center rail which Gargraves offers, and then used a rust colored paint on the visible sides of the running rails. Kitty litter - (without the green dots) was used as ballast, and fastened down with a diluted mixture of Elmers white glue and water. (It dries clear). I know of several O guage 3 rail layouts that use gargraves track and they all look very realistic.
