OK, So DCC seems to be the hottest topic of the day, with all the mag's devoting special sections to it etc. I'm from the old school and still run block systems, but must admit I'm intriuged. My biggest question is with instalation of the decoders in steam locos. I just barely have room in most of them or there tenders for a somple constant lighting circut. Does anyone out ther do custom DCC decoder instalation and how reliable are the units once they are installed? I must admit, that electronically I'm at best a "get by" beginning amature, so I don't really follow what is out there in the print media today. Thanks for the help. Scott

Scott, Scott, Scott...my friend and ally in the non DCC world...don't do it!! My new layout will be trusty block with walk-around . This DCC stuff is silly...I want to RUN my trains, not program them !! Happy Modeling!! John

OK Scott, I'm sure you remember the old Alka-seltzer TV comercial-TRY IT YOU'LL LIKE IT ? If you are seriously considering going to DCC, I would suggest that you find a club or an individual near you that runs DCC. Try it out and see what you think. I think that after you run a DCC layout you wont want to go back to the regular DC. For custom instalations try Tonys Train Exchange ( look for TTX in MR or RMC) They have a good reputation for service. A DCC decoder is not a whole lot bigger than those constant lighting circuts and not much harder to install. If you can do constant lighting you can do DCC just follow the directions. Also many of the newer models comming out have provision for DCC built in , all you do is remove a dummy plug and plug in a decoder, cant be any eaiser than that. ..........Mike Posts: 97 | From: Columbus Ohio USA | Registered: Jul 2000

Mike, Thanks for the feed back! DCC is intruiging. There are serious cost/reward considerations for me but I am going to try and find a club that has it in use. Scott
