I drove up to the Bay Area from So Cal today taking CA 99 most of the way up and saw several UP trains along the way. The first train I saw was an eastbound intermodal with one of the 2002 Salt Lake Olympic SD70M's still in its special scheme. I didn't know that they hadn't yet repainted these units, and it's the first time I've seen one.

The Olympic unit was the first trailing unit on this train. It was led by a C44-9W and five SD70M's, with the Olympic unit as the second unit.

I can tell you one Olympics unit was heading eastbound thru Palm Springs last friday. Prolly the same unit you guys are talking about.
I was on the Sunset Limited, parked just outside of Palm Springs and in the lounge car I see on my side a yellow unit...then whoah! a purple unit! COOL!..hehe....so I got the closest view to it!
