Wallowa and Union Counties recently purchased the rail lines to keep them available. They were literally in the process of ripping up track when the counties decided to make the big step and try to keep this vital link. Rail cars have been purchased and should be here soon. I am a member of a group who is putting on a benefit event to help raise funds to refurbish these cars to become a dinner/tour car. This area is spectacular with scenic beauty, but is struggling financially. We will be offering a bronze medallion with the train image, name with a limited edition. 1) would any of you train enthusiasts out there be interested in the purchase of a medallion. 2) can you suggest any other avenues for me to market this medallion 3) Would anyone out there have an interest in sponsoring a rail car, donation wise?4) We are looking for a celebrity draw for our event on May 17, 03. Anyone famous out there that would want to help draw attention to our cause? All suggestions are welcome. I am new at this internet stuff and am not familiar with the rail road fans and how your interests fall. Thanks. Happy Rails to you.

You realize that a company was willing to look at putting in a timber preservative plant, work with the counties on economic development for a say in operating the freight end of the railroad, using a well rounded and experienced rail staff. Then the counties decided they can run the railroad by themselves and failed to even tell the timber company the action they were taking. Sorry if I don't share your enthusiasm for the line. I know it is not the passenger enthusiasts or you personally. Just frustrated by the lack of foresight and consideration for the thousands of carloads and jobs this would have created.
