uinion Pacific has finally officially filed application at STB to discontinue service over Paramount Industrial Lead on March 24, acknowledged 3/31.
Sections included are approx 1/2 mile NW of Garfield/Rosecrans on LAMTA trackage and 10.8 miles over OCTA trackage between Stanton and Crutcher. Pending filing of any formal objections, application[for exemption] will be granted effective April 30. Despite the considerable petroleum known to have moved over this line before rerouting out over the new connection at Paramount, U.P. claims no traffic has moved over the line in the past two years, and no mention is made of the new connection.

This is interesting since they had already cut the track near several grade crossings and removed other sections last year.

I was puzzled by the Xing cuts last year, too, but was advised by U.P. legal staffer that yjey had bigger fish to fry than push back on cities who were jumping the gun, when all concerned knew it was inevitible eventually.

How time flies. The last train to run over the Paramount Branch was a little over a year ago on March 27, 2003. The connection at Stanton was not simply spiked but actually severed shortly thereafter.
