I'm new to the Kansas City area, and was wondering if there were any railfans out there who could help me find some good spots for trainwatching..thanks

I don't live in your area but do drive thru going from Denver to St Louis several times a year. I come in on Interstate 70 and on the Kansas side there is a huge railyard on the south side of the highway just outside the downtown(s). I recall several exits in the area but couldn't tell you exit numbers, just that they are on the KS side. Not safe to stop along the interstate shoulder for long; I have done that though. And then as I pass thru KC Kansas there seems to be quite an industrial area, also adjacent to the interstate, with lots of tracks and trains. My son (5 years old) and I always look forward to that part of the road trip. I think the Amtrak Station is out by Lee's Summit, and is also along I-70.
Good Luck.
