I was in Washington Ma.this Saturday. I met a guy out there that told me there is a great place to watch trains around Amsterdam N.Y.. Lots of trains and different power. He said something about a river with some locks that you can park at. Can anyone give me directions. I live in Springfield Ma.. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Take I-90 west to the Amsterdam exit. Cross over the Mohawk river and head west on 5 through town; follows signs to the Amtrak station. At the station you'll have the Guy Park detector just east of you,& the Mohawk river in front of you.The signals to your left (when looking at the river) will light with an approaching eastbound; westbounds are easily viewed by looking east. Very safe, very active!
