that discussion has been around for as long as NS has had Conrail. There was some talk in the beginning when NS has just taken over Conrail that they were planning to put in a 4th track. However, the information that i got from a track maintainer in that area was that due to derailments on the curve from time to time they did not know if there was enough clearence to be able to put in a 4th track. Now with the downturn in traffic it is quite possilbe that they might go down to two tracks. However, with the voloume at times that still travles over those rails i would the they would (should) have second thoughts about reducing capacity

The last time i was at horseshoe i am pretty sure i remember there being 3 tracks still in place and i really doubt that they would spend the money to reduce the line to two tracks considering how busy the line usually is.
