I'm taking the Capitol Limited next week. My understanding is that this train uses the same trainset as the Southwest Chief. What happens if the Southwest Chief is many hours late (7 or more)? Also, what would happen if the SC became disabled and could not make it to Chicago at all the day my train is due to leave?

The truth of the matter is it wouldn't be that much of a problem. There are at least 6 superliners departing each day from Chicago. There is also spare equipment in the yard. Other factors come into play also, for instance if the Chief was not able to get to Chicago then the Westbound Chief wouldn't leave either. You could then use the trainset that just came from Wash. DC to return there. I wouldn't worry about it, just have a great trip. Yours Reggie
