I will be traveling from Newton KS to Chicago and its about a 12 to 13hr trip. Would it make sense to book a sleeper or go with coach. Train leaves Newton at about 2:50am. I'm mainly trying to get an idea of what others would do if they were taking this route.

Thanks
Scott

I personally ride coach when I catch the early train. To me the added expense of sleeper isn't justified for this short period in the morning, since I enjoy eating in the dining car for breakfast and watching the sights out the window once daylight breaks. Unless getting sleep is very important to you, I recommend going to bed early the night before and catching a snooze in a coach seat. Eat breakfast in the dining car when it opens and spend the rest of the trip in the sightseer lounge enjoying the scenery.
Should you change your mind, buy a sleeper on the train; it will be a lot cheaper.

Enjoy your trip!

With the possibility of late trains becoming more & more prevalent, I would say to go with the coach also. Personally I book a sleeper when ever they are available just to have a private place to retreat to. The added expense probably isn't justified though. Yours Reggie
