I will be traveling from LA to Oakland on Amtrak's Starlight w/my daughter (11) soon. My understanding is that Amtrak has its own bus service where we would transfer to get to Fisherman's Wharf.

Is this bus system reliable and timely? Should we find alternative transportation from Oakland to Fisherman's Wharf??

Other suggestions appreciated.

Thanks,
bp

Just a quick question before I answer yours. Any reason you posted this question twice? Sorry, curiosity only.
To answer your question, there are several options available. You can make the bus connection at the Amtrak Station in Emeryville. The busses are contracted by Amtrak & carry connecting passengers only. Nothing quite as bad as taking the old grey *** . You can also make connections to Caltrains in San Jose depending on the arrival time into San Jose. These are not guaranteed though & you will still need transportation from the station in S. F. to your final destination. The Amtrak thruway bus connections are safe, convenient, guaranteed & can be ticketed by Amtrak at the same time as your rail tickets. Just a suggestion book a standard bedroom on the train. It will cost a little more but you will have access to the Pacific parlor car & all meals will be included in the fare. It's possible that your rail fare will be less when booking a sleeperas when booking a sleeper you always get the lowest rail fare. Have a great trip.
Yours Reggie

Just as a little extra info, a hypothetical trip on April 28th, rail fare coach would be $84 for an adult & a child. With the standard bedroom the rail fare would be $72 & room charge $131. As stated before you would have your own private room, First class lounge car service in the Pacific parlor car with snacks & beverages at no charge. Your room could be made up to take a nap in the afternoon if you cared too, be careful you might sleep through the wine tasting in the Pacific Parlor car if you did. You would also have lunch & dinner in the dining car included in your fare.
Yours Reggie

Reggie,

Thanks for the info. I was concerned about the connection and see I have no need to worry. I'll book the sleeper as well.

Too bad there is no train up the Ca. coast from SF to Oregon (my final destiation is Brookings, Or.)

I posted the message twice as the first time the forum software said I failed to fill in the necessary info (password) the first time. Sorry about the wasted bandwidth.

I appreciate your assistance!

Regards,

bp
