I will be travelling on the Ca Zephry in Sept and have booked a family bedroom for 2 adults. Stayed in a standard room before on the Starlight and found the sleeping arrangements a bit claustrophobic and uncomfortable..esp the top berth. Anyone have any comments about the Family Bedroom and its advantages over the standard room or any tips or suggestions..Thanks!

The family bedroom is on the lower level & the bed situation is the same as the deluxe bedroom. It also has 2 small beds, upper & lower for children, these beds can be left in seat position at night so if one person wishes to stay up to read a book or just check out the scenery they may do so. The room is also the full width of the car so you have windows, albeit smaller windows, on each side of the car. The room has no shower or toilet facilities but they are just a few steps away. Be advised Amtrak has charged a minimum 2&1/4 rail fares for this room. Need more info e-mail me @ reggierail@cs.com

We had a Family room on the Coast Starlight last month. The other advantage over the Standard room is a closet. It's fairly shallow, but the full height of the room. You'll also have less traffic by your door and it's easier access to the vestibule if you want to jump off for some fresh air at the stations.

More good points on the family room Dave. The only down sides is being close to the wheels so you do get more noise & you have to go to the upper level anytime you want to go to another car. Reggie

Amtrak no longer has a rail ticket minimum in a Family room.
