Forum Memebers: My brother and I, are planning a train trip in February, to see the, tour of the entire line, of the Algoma RR. We are looking forward to a, winter-wonderland, of scenery along this route. We are meeting in, Detroit, Mich; renting a car for the ride up to Ste. St. Marie, Ontario, Canada. Assuming, we have no problems driving from Detroit, to Canada, we just know, as long as we get on the train, the line can handle, pretty-much, any amount of snow-fall, we may encounter. We will spend one night in Hearst, before returning the next day. Does anyone out-there, in cyber-land, ever been on a trip like this, on this line??? Let me hear from you, with your remarks. Keep-the-green light, flashing.... .....Richard

I was on that train a number of years ago and it was a memorable experience. We actually got off the train at some remote flag stop in the Canadian wilderness, so we did not do the whole route. I remember the train having particularly old equipment (It's quite possible they've upgraded by now) and it was a somewhat bumpy ride, but the scenery was absolutely amazing. I think we were on the train in the spring so most of the snow had melted, but a winter trip sounds like it will be awesome! I believe winter is a very popular season for the railroad. I've never heard anything bad about the train, that's for sure... You'll also have no trouble crossing over to Canada. Have fun!
