With summer quickly drawing to a close, Amtrak is offering guests the opportunity to savor the last fleeting days of the season with the extension of its 30th Anniversary discount. With the discount, guests can enjoy one last vacation this summer and receive a 30 percent discount on Amtrak travel through September 30, 2001.

'As we continue to celebrate our 30th Annniversary, more and more people are travling on Amtrak," said Barbara J. Richardson, Amtrak's executive vice president. "Despite the slowing economy, we continue to see an increase in ridership, which shows that Amricans are chossing Amtrak as their travel alternative."

Amtrak's popularity with travelers across the country continues to grow. For the month of June, more than 2,070,000 guests travled on Amtrak, an increase of 3.1 percent over June of last Year. For the fiscal year, ridership has topped 17.4 million, an increase of 5.5 percent over fiscal year 2000.

Summer travlers can enjoy Amtrak's 30th Anniversary discount now through the end of September. The discount is available on reservations made through the end of September. The discount is available on reservations made through September 23 and is good for travel through September 30, 2001. Reseverations must be booked at least seven days prior to travel, and tickets must be purchased within three days of making the reservation.
