Hi:

Just annoucing that there will be a high speed train linking between Johannesburg, Pretoria, Airport and other places (such as sandton, rosebank, midrand, centurian, etc - in South Africa) to be built for 2003.

More info (for those train fans) on http://www.gautrain.co.za/.

They have announced that the trains would travel at an average of at least 160km/h, with 11km in tunnels under the city and 5km on elevated structures, with a total length of at least +/- 80km.

Getting to places would take about 15 minutes instead of 50 minutes by car.

This might be the first high speed train in Africa and probably the whole of the southern hemisphere (correct me please if i am wrong, not sure about australia).
