Hello All,

I have a question that I could not find an answer to in this forum.

What's the career path to an Engineer position with Amtrak? The career path for a freight line is Track Worker, Conductor, Engineer. What is it with the passenger lines?

Drew

Hi Drew,
I think this is the career path: car attendant, assistant conductor, conductor, engineer. That's what an Amtrak engineer I talked to told me, but I'm not completely sure about the car attendant part.

Things have been changing a lot recently, but historically, the conductor has been the boss of the train. The conductor is like the captain of the ship. He is the highest ranking member on the train.
