Just took coast starlight up to oakland and back. The trip was great. especially the crew. evrey member of the crew except the dinning car attendents were great. when we got of at san jose my friend dropped our tickets but luckly our car attendent picked them up and put them our sleeper without us even knowing.( i tipped him $30 and thanked him about a hundred times.

trip ran pretty on time. going north we were only 30 min late and we even hit 82.9 mph. coming back we ran early even though we had a stopp to pick up a cal train engine in san jose.

the food o amtrak was not to good. in the past i remember the meals being very good.the steak said it was 10 oz more like 7oz fat 3 oz meat. the apple pie was frozen and i realized that the raving bout cheesecake mR toy made it is just kraft cheesecake.(GO and buy some yourself)
the diner is no better then airplane food and when i fly first class the food is far better the the train.

and this one crewmember named JC who i think might have been the Chief of on board services was crazy
the parlour car had a SERVE yourself policy because i athink he was just lazy.

all in all i would say this trip is a 6/10

I wasn't raving, I was ranting. The cheescake they have now is lousy. But the key lime cheesecake they had last year was exceptional.

But overall the food on my trip this year was superior to the food last year. My apple pie was one of the best I ever had. Salmon and chicken, burgers, etc. were also terrific. It probably depends on who is cooking the day you travel.
