I notice auto train is listed in the rail sale for a one way price of $37.40 per person plus cost of car transport. Can anyone tell me if this is offered often in the fall and autumn? It's a great savings and since we can be flexible would be preferable to reserving a few months ahead as we've done before. On another note, I've been monitoring this site for a long time and surely enjoy the comments and trip reports. Gin

Rail sales on the Auto Train don't happen very often. The autumn weeks are one of the few slack periods. Vacation time is over, the Holiday Season hasn't started, and the snowbirds haven't yet begun their annual migration.
Still, I wouldn't absolutely count on it happening next year. A lot depends on unpredictable variables -- from the number of Superliners available, to the current fare, to the stock market, to world events.
If you're flexible, it might be worth it to wait and see. Even if there's no rail sale, chances are that the train won't be booked solid during the fall, and you can still book a standard reservation. Just don't wait until the very last minute.

Thanks, Dilly. I did mean to ask about both fall and spring instead of fall and autumn!! Very poor proofreading. We'll probably see what happens in the next few month. I did find out that there are still openings on the auto train that we've already reserved so guess you're right about the slow season. Thanks again for your reply. Gin
