I'm trying to make a list of where the F40's that were not scrapped went to. I know some have been renumbered on different railroads or are in museums, but i'm having a difficult time finding out what their original number was. If anybody knows anything could they either post it here or email me? Thanks.

By saying "they", you make things very unclear. A device to get people to click on the thread, perhaps? I advise using your intended subject, Amtrak's F40PHs.
I do not have a list, but perhaps it may be of interest that NJ Transit leased numbers 274 and 302 recently, as a stopgap while the woes of Alstom are played out (if Alstom goes under, then NJT will not get their new order of locomotives from them).

I have a very small list, but for now look back to my post (sometime in 2002) entitled "F40 Confusion." The engines in restoration are 281 at a Transportation museum in California, and 231 in Portland, OR. 271, 280, 288, and maybe another are working for Ohio Central. 390 and 395 went to CSX for their business train, and although they've been repainted twice, I think they are unreliable for them. A number of the engines which sat in Rensselaer after the majority were moved to Indiana to their doom were in fact sold, and under preparation and inspection for new units. 315 and 320 went to Alaska. 411, 319, 287, 316 (April 1 Depew, going to be repainted) and 372 all went to Quebec commuter service. MBTA bought a few (382???), and 313, 354, and (guessing) 374 went to Panama. 227 and 228 were pending sale in 2001, no word on where they really went. I also saw (in the final days of the chi-cam) a unit painted for what I thought was Canadian-American (CDAC?) but it was also belching white smoke when started, so maybe not. That camera has since been pulled offline to make room for another camera with the incredibly important task of watching people in cubicles on the internet drinking coffee. Ahh, classic American priorties. Look, Melissa got new shoes today! WGAS??? !$#@%!#$^%@%$#&^!%$# Okay, another successful digression behind me. Could Mr. 231 himself assist here, by any chance? It's a start, at least.

I know of two F40PHs in museums.One is preserved in P ortland,Or.The other is in the California State Railroad Museum.Several commuter agencies also operate F40's.
