Anybody here ever ridden a freight train? my grandpa said that back in the good ol days many people did this. but these days, it seems all the railroads have police who will arrest people riding on the trains. I also have heard about freight railroad gangs. they sound pretty dangerous.

if it was easy, id try it myself, just for the experience!

yeah i have when i was younger for the thrill and ended up 60 miles from where i wanted to get off from and i have seen a few doing it out west but it is really dangerous and i would not suggest anyone doing it. from the people you may run into.trying to steal from the boxcars and after 9/11 you can be sure to go to jail if caught. not to mention on getting hurt or killed.please don't do it

When I was a kid in the 1940s playing by the RR tracks I saw more than a few hobos on passing trains but that was then and this is now. Those days are gone...these days you could very easily get shot or get seriously injured.

Yea Shang, it's really a bad idea to even think about riding a freight train. I worked freight back in the 70's and 80's and we did have quite a few hobo's riding and we also had a few get killed because they didn't know what they were doing. As you know trains are very dangerous. I am a professional railroader and I have to be extremely careful when I am around the equiptment. I see kids on a regular basis crawl under, over, and in between freight cars and it put's shivers up my spine everytime I see them do it. They don't know when or if those cars are going to move. We do still see a few hobos on trains from time to time but not near as regular as we use too. Most of the riders aren't thieves, they just want a ride and the bulls don't really mess with them. The bulls are more interested in the kids who break into the cars trying to find something to steal.
