Hi guys,

I was shown the article in Trains Magazine about the scrapping of the E60s yesterday and I almost cried (not really, but my heart did drop though, lol) when I saw pictures of an E60 on its side in the scrap yard.

I'm gonna miss those bad boys. It's sad that they were only limited to about 90MPH because of thier poor performance at high speeds. They always looked great to me, seeing them pull the long distance trains along the NEC.

I also saw a web page online that gave brief history of the E60 and explained one of the Modifications Amtrak made to the locomotives. It talked about why Amtrak moved the number boards and headlights above the Cab window from the nose. It was a result of close-coupling issues and negotiating the tight curves at Sunnyside yard. very interesting!

Anyway, just interested in seeing how forum members here feel.

They were big boxcabs, not what I would call handsome, but powerful-looking, and we have so few electric engines in North America that I like anything we get.

I do miss the variety they provided on Amtrak and NJ Transit, although not their lower speed on long-distance trains operating on the Northeast Corridor.

I rode behind E60s a few times in the early 90s,and thought they looked right on the point of a long train.I prefered them to the AEM7s.I will miss them greatly.
