I would like to take the Pacific Surfliner from Anaheim to Union Station. I will be catching the Southwest Chief at 6:45 pm. Is the Surfliner dependable enough to catch the 5:00 pm train departing from Anaheim with arrival in Union Station at 5:45 pm? Will this give me enough time to get checked in on the Chief? Are these connections guaranteed? Once I check in on the Surfliner, would I be in Amtrak's system so I don't have to check in again once I get to Union Station?

Thanks for any help,

Brian Keefer

I always use 583 from Santa Ana which always gets me to LAX in plenty of time to catch 4 east. If something bad would happen they is also a Metrolink train you could take that could get you to either Fullerton or Los Angeles where you could connect. Check with the agent always to check the status of 583.

That's correct for Monday thru Friday; weekends it is Amtrak-only on the Orange County route. MP

My tickets for the Chief are from LA Union Station. We will be at Disneyland on the day that we depart. I just noticed how close Fullerton is to Disneyland and how much later the Chief departs Fullerton. How big of a deal would it be to board at Fullerton instead of Union Station? Also, if I do decide to get on at Fullerton, how do I get my tickets changed from Union Station to Fullerton?

Thanks,

Brian Keefer

You do not need to get your tickets changed because you are now going to be traveling for a shoorter distance. However, do call Amtrak and have them note in your reservation that you wioll be boarding at Fullerton.

I once was in business class on the Palmetto and boarded one station later. The train pulled right on by (it is a double-stop platform) and they had everyone board in coach. I had to schlep 3 or 4 cars forward to the business coach. The conductor said they were looking for me at the previous stop and even stayed a couple of minutes extra (believe it or not!) and that had they known I was bording where I did, they would have stopped with the business coach on the platform. Was my own fault, but I learned a great operational detail.

Brian -- there's no need to go from Disneyland into L.A. Union Station -- catch #4 at Fullerton. If you do want to experience the Surfliners, though, you could catch one at either Anaheim or Fullerton to go into L.A. The Surfliners usually run pretty close to schedule.

Wow, great pictures. Thats the best look I've had of the completed field so far.

That right field corner is wicked. Good luck to Brian Giles this year.

So how far is the station from Petco Park.

Last Thursday 583 was not dependable to get me to Los Angeles from Santa Ana to catch the Southwest Chief.

Train 572 was annulled due to engine problems thus no 583 it becomes in San Diego to run north. Metrolink 689 got me to LAX at 6:14 in time to catch train 4, If I wouldn't have done Metrolink, I wouldn't have gotten my 800,000 rail miles on my Rail Sale Trip to La Junta on my return yesterday morning.

The story should be posted by Wednesday night late,

Uncle Buck

Petco is about a mile southeast of the Amtrak Station and easily reached by the Trolley.
