This morning I heard on the news that the WB CZ derailed in the Sierra Nevada Mountains while going through a snow storm. According to the report, there were no injuries to anyone on board (passengers & Crew)
The report also mentioned that the train still had power anfd plenty of food aboard. My guess would indicate that this was a minor derailment (only one axle went off the tracks) and that they were just waiting for help to arrive to put the car back on track so that the train can finish the trip to EMY this morning.
Has anyone heard any more info on this derailment?????????

Meanwhile, a westbound Amtrak train was stopped 37 miles west of Truckee when three axles derailed on two passenger cars of the California Zephyr, according to spokesman Dan Stessel. He said there were no injuries among the 300 passengers and crew of about 15, and the train had heat and power, as well as food and water. Crews from Union Pacific Railroad, which owns the tracks, were working to get the Zephyr back on the way to Emeryville, Calif. Stessel said the cause was not known, but it was snowing heavily and an eastbound “spreader” engine used to clear snow from the tracks had passed the derailment site a short time earlier, possibly scooping snow onto the westbound track. from the Reno Gazette-Journal
Amtrak site notes No. 5 departed Roseville 1/2/04 7:25 AM 17 hours and 26 minutes late.
