Gov Rell offered a 3.44 M Plan to look into expand rail service from Springfield MA to New Haven, Stanford and to New York City. This would be a expansion of the New Haven Metro-North. With the increase of gas prices ridership has increased on the Shore Line East from Stamford to New London, there are plans to expand the line to Providence RI. Have not seen the final plans but I believe this type of rail service would be much more convinient as far as scheduling then the NEC Amtrak Trains. Before Amtrak the New Haven RR rain trains from GCT to Springfield. If the commuter lines can equal Amtrak as far as speed along the Prd to NHV I think this could work. Question of for Amtrak fans, Could could the state railroads work in unision to take over for the NEC?

What's he doing for his 3.44 million? Getting about three DMU's or a couple of used coaches and one locomotive? That is about all this much money will do for him.
Considering the rather poor level of cooperation that is already being given for speed from Connecticut to Amtrak, I can't see this helping the situation.

She not He !! (Jodi M Rell - well liked and respected woman Govenor of CT).
Believe that sum is to be used for a study --- not the purchase of locomotives or cars. It is if I recall part of a study on transportation systems here in CT (present and future needs and possible solutions.

Duly acknowledge "she" I do know that a certain amount of studies have to be done, and have been part of making some, but quite frequently, "We are going to make a study," is a method of looking like you are doing something you have no intention of ever doing. From the view of a lot of the honest consultants, and yes there are a lot of them, this is also extremely frustrating, because you can come up with clear reasons why something should be done and then have it shredded by nincompoop politicians. As I saw in a book once, an experience something like hearing Michaelangelo's painting of the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel being critiqued by Ms Yahoo's 5th grade art class.

Will have to call my local State Rep and see what he has for current info on this - and get his viewpoint/take on it all.
