From Trains.com:

EL PASO, Texas - A Union Pacific intermodel freight train, the ILBDA-24 bound from long Beach., to Dallas, Texas, 10 miles southeast of EL Paso on the former Southern Pacific Los Angeles-New Orleans Sunset Route. There were no injuries or hazmat concerns. About 700 feet of track had to be replaced, and the main line was reopened by 1 a.m.

This didn't help passengers on Amtrak's Sunset Limited, operating between Orlando, Fla., and Los Angeles. Westbound train 1 of the 24th was terminated at Alpine, Texas, and passengers bused to Tucson, Aziz., to board the consist of eastbound counterpart train 2, which turned back to represent the westbound. Eastbound passengers were bused from Tuscon to Alpine, and the equipment from train 1 was serviced and reversed at Alpine to become train 2 of the 25th from Alpine to Orlando.

well gang what is your reaction?

I was riding #1(24) from Orlando to New Orleans. At Bay St Louis we were 4hrs late, but owing to the "flab" in the schedule only 1'40" into New Orleans. Departure from NO was on time.

However, I met one guy "going all the way" who even being aixtysomething was still quite Type-A ("wife says I gotta relax; what is it stopping for NOW").

Something tells me,Amtrak has not heard the last from him.
