I just found out this morning at Austin, TX that about six weeks ago, Amtrak stopped staffing the dining car between San Antonio and Fort Worth. They did this as another one of their cost cutting measures on the Texas Eagle. Less than a year ago, they cut checked baggage at many stops and reduced the stations' operating hours.

Maybe they could just serve prepackaged sandwiches, given out by one crew member. (The lounge is open for sandwiches, hot dogs, etc.) and first class passengers can take their ticket stubs to get complimentary meals.

Support an Expanded Amtrak in Texas!

Oh yeah, I had forgotten. I guess I had heard about that. That's too bad.
