Is it possible to find out the consist of an Amtrak train before it arrives at your station?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum!
In answer to your quesion, I think the only way to do that is to have somebody check it for you up the line somewhere. You can find out the number and type of equipment, (for example: SW CHIEF:
4 Genesis units,
Baggage
Superliner: Trans. dorm, 2-3 coach, Sightseer, Diner, 2 sleeper,
15-20 Mail/Express), but you won't get the exact numbers.
From your location in Texas, I'm guessing you'll be looking for the Texas Eagle, so if someone on the forum is along its route, perhaps they could check it for you!
Good luck!
Eric

BigWwtx, I live in St. Louis. But Im sorry to say that I rarely go downtown to see the Eagle. But I do go to Kirkwood every other weekend.

Hey Uncle Buck:

I grew up in U City although I haven't lived there since 1981, I visit regularly. We used to hang out at Union Station when it was still a train station - this was in the 60's. I am almost 53. I have even been to the top to the clock towers at the station (although this was accomplished, shall I say, outside the knowledge of the facility staff). We'd sit on the platforms and watch the trains back in and pull out. Beautiful, cavernous place.

In the fifties and into the early sixties we took what was then the National Limited, I think, from there to NYC many times. Was always crowded. I remember opening the windows in the corridor between the cars and sticking my head out like a *** enjoying the wind. Timing mileposts to figure out our speed. Looking for the locomotive as we rounded horseshoe curve in PA.

I always go out to the National Museum of Transportation (I guess it is a county park now)when I come home to visit. Do you go out there much? I think it is a great train museum.

Say Hi to the Kirkwood station for me. Guess i wandered away from the topics. Oh well. Thats what train travel is about...

Yes I do go to the Museum of transportation every once in a while. You used to be able to go up into many of the engines, at least 6 or 7 of them, but now you can only go up into one Steam Loco.

I bet the word that has stars over it has four legs and is a good pet.
