This is probably a very basic question but here goes. I have a reservation for Amtrak NYC to LNC for 6:30, can I leave on an earlier train if I get out of class earlier?

Thanks

I have interpreted your posting to mean that on June 30 2003, you are presently ticketed to leave New York for Lincoln, Nebraska.

Compared with airlines, Amtrak is quite liberal with exchange privileges; but contact them for full details.

LNC is the code for Lancaster, PA. As long as it's not a bargain bucket fare and there is space on the train, you should be able to do it for free or for a small exchange fee. Check at the station *before* you get on board.

On the Hiawathas, any ticket for that day works. I've ridden earlier and later trains than what I was ticketed for, and have never had any type of hassle using the ticket I was issued.

IOW, no ticket exchange was necessary for travel on the same day.

Capitol Corridor (northern CA) are like the Hiawathas...ticket good on any train. Tickets do not even have train numbers on them.

NEC seems to be stricter about switching trains though
