My sister in Salem reports today that an Oregon DOT bill squeaked out of the House with funding for the Portland-Eugene segment of the Cascades. She wrote in part: "...apparently there were many speeches on the floor against the [original] Dept. of Transportation budget because of what it did to train funding--some of the staff (and members?) commute that way."

The revised DOT bill now must pass the Senate. Stay tuned.

False alarm. After further comunication with my sister I found out I misread her earlier e-mail and the bill left the House without the funding after all. What she was trying to tell me was that 27 Republicans were trying to save the train, but because of some technicality they had to vote on the bill without making changes.

Sorry for the confusion.

NARP has a similar negative report on its Hotline page. The Senate will now have to approve the funding.
