Hi everyone.. I haven't heard anything lately from Albany about the new station there. Unfortunately I won't be back in the area until Dec. Last I heard there was some funding problem, but I'm not sure if they delayed construction.. anyone have any idea? The CDTA website has an update from July..

Thanks!

I emailed CDTA.. lets see if they have a good response, but if someone knows, that'll be the best info!

I don't know much about it. I did pass through there on the Lake Shore Limited this summer. They had a model of the new station inside the existing station. It looked like it will be a very nice place once its finished.

It's good to see some quality train stations appearing. Albuquerque and Dodge City appear to be building nice stations as well.

I'll be traveling to that station on 10/21 - when I get back, I can post what I find out.

Word is the station BUILDING is complete, but they're having problems relocating the tracks for the new high-level platforms. Possibly that was a seperate contract.

Two answers from Trainorders.. The first one on here seems to be very specific, hopefully this guy knows what he's talking about! I'll take his word for it. I did not get a reply to my email to CDTA.

Here is the latest...

The new parking garage adjacent to the present station is due to open on October 22. The garage will provide PAID parking, but the current open lots will remain free for the immediate future.

The contract for the overhead walkway and two high level platforms has been awarded, with construction due for completion in May 2002.

The necessary track and signal work should be completed by spring 2002.

The current 'official' opening date for the station is June 2002.

The station will open with three boarding tracks and room for the fourth in the future. A freight by-pass track will also be built by the spring 2002.

It seems that everything is in order and that these dates should be able to be met...

The garage was open on October 23. Unfortunately I was running late & didn't get a chance to inquire about the new station. Remembering the old station that was in downtown Albany, even the current one looks like an improvement (old neighborhood was questionable).

Boarding the NY sleeper on the Lake Shore Limited that night involved a walk half way to Schenectady (or so it seemed). There were curbs to negotiate and tracks to cross and dragging my small bag was a chore.

On that trip I also had the same sleeping car attendant (Stan) as I did on the trip east the prior week. When they know you're a good tipper, the service gets even better!

Also Richmond, VA, is remodeling the old Main Street Station, from 1901, to be the center of new multi-modal transportation center, with Amtrak, Light Rail, perhaps Metro/Subway, and Buses.
