It's good to see some quality train stations appearing. Albuquerque and Dodge City appear to be building nice stations as well.

Here is the latest...

The new parking garage adjacent to the present station is due to open on October 22. The garage will provide PAID parking, but the current open lots will remain free for the immediate future.

The contract for the overhead walkway and two high level platforms has been awarded, with construction due for completion in May 2002.

The necessary track and signal work should be completed by spring 2002.

The current 'official' opening date for the station is June 2002.

The station will open with three boarding tracks and room for the fourth in the future. A freight by-pass track will also be built by the spring 2002.

It seems that everything is in order and that these dates should be able to be met...

Boarding the NY sleeper on the Lake Shore Limited that night involved a walk half way to Schenectady (or so it seemed). There were curbs to negotiate and tracks to cross and dragging my small bag was a chore.

Also Richmond, VA, is remodeling the old Main Street Station, from 1901, to be the center of new multi-modal transportation center, with Amtrak, Light Rail, perhaps Metro/Subway, and Buses.
