Trainsmag.com just reported that Amtrak will begin accepting reservations for the new Portland, Maine-Boston Downeaster service on November 15, a month before the long-awaited trains begin rolling over Guilford's Boston & Maine route.

Schedules and fare information are posted at a new web site for the service, www.thedowneaster.com. A same-day round trip ticket between Portland and Boston costs $35; the one-way fare on the 114-mile route is $21.

Trains will depart Portland at 6:05 a.m. 8:45 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4:20 p.m. Departures from Boston's North Station are at 9:45 a.m., noon., 6:15 p.m. and 1:45 a.m.

Meanwhile, Maine's Department of Transportation has secured $5.5 million in federal funds to extend Amtrak service from Portland to Brunswick, Maine the Asswociated Press reported on Friday. The proposed route would include a stop in Freeport, the home of popular retailer L.L. Bean, which has an outlet store near the right-of-way.

The entire project would cost as much as $30 million. Maine has earmarked $10.5 million to rebuild the route for passenger service.

Well guys what is your reaction to this?
