IF THE SOUTH WAS INTRODUCED TO PASSENGER RAIL SERVICE LIKE THE NORTHEAST CORRIDOR HAS ,I BELIEVE IT WOULD CHANGE GREATLY THE MODE OF TRANSPORTATION.

I think you're right. We've proven it here in California. People will ride trains if they are avalable!

It took a 1990 ballot proposition to get it started, though. Now our Capitol Corridor is the fastest growing route in the nation. The planners can't keep up with the demand. If we can do it here, in the "land of the freeway, and the home of the drive" it can work almost anywhere.

I have heard that Atlanta is trying to get a regional service going. I hear one of the Carolinas has a good setup going. I suggest you write your elected representatives at all levels, city, county, state, and federal to let them know what you want. Write to a letter your local paper to show your support and help spread the word.

Here in Virginia, we have a group called BristolRail that is trying to link DC and Richmond to Bristol (SW Virginia/E Tennessee), and should be running in about two years over NS tracks.

Plus, we have the VRE, which will soon cover Washington to Richmond and perhaps Norfolk, and some other small private railroads.
