Hi Folks.

I´m a train fan from germany and have a question: does anyone know, ahen the differnet Amtrak paint schemes were introduced and which of them i can find today?. Are there Phase II Amfleet cars on the way today?

Greetings, Micha.

The Phase I scheme was introduced at the begining of Amtrak and lasted on some cars up to the 80's. Phase II was introduced in the mid 70's and appeared on the very first Superliners. I'm not positive, as there are a lot of cars at Beach Grove awaiting repairs, but it would be a rarity to find a car in phase I or II paint today. Phase III was introduced in the early 80's and lasted untill about 1994. There are still a few cars in phase III paint that are riding the rails today. Mainly horizon cars in use on regional trains and material handling cars. Phase IV was used on the Superliner II's and other newer Amtrak equipment. This is the current scheme being used on all Superliners. With the new Acela starting just a few years ago, a new scheme started to appear on the newest P42's. Now this is the current scheme for all new P42's and other Genesis series locomotives that have been shopped. I'm not sure as the exact dates for each scheme, but this info should help.

You can check out this site. It has all of Amtrak's equipment with various paint schemes:
