I'm planning to travel Cleveland-Washington-Newport News in March. We'll be getting on after 2:00am. Is anyone familiar with the Amtrak station in Cleveland? How comfortable a place would it be to wait an hour or two (I note the train is often late)? Also, does the Capitol Limited serve lunch prior to arriving in Washington?

JimN, I have never traveled the Capitol Limited per se (yet!) but standard procedure, from experience, tells me to warn you of one thing: ALWAYS call Amtrak (the 800 number) before leaving for the station. Their little yappy computer lady will deliver the train's most recent status report so you don't end up waiting for hours on end in a room of waiting. If you plan on checking baggage, arrive at the station at least 30 minutes prior to departure. For other tips, follow the link: http://www.narprail.org/tips.htm This should provide you with an introductory guide to riding the rails. Also, the "Plan Your Trip" link on the official Amtrak web page should prove useful. I've only been by the Cleveland station and am unfamiliar with the Capitol's meal schedule- I'll leave that up to others.

JimN: Capitol Limited serves a very good breakfast after leaving Pittsburgh on its way to Washington. I've ridden this train many times and find it is still worth the trip. It will be very sad ineed if "The Cap" goes away.
