I think Tommy Thompson would make a TERRIFIC choice for Amtrak president.
Does any one think there is a possible chance he could be appointed ?
Also, would he ACCEPT if offered the job ?
I am certain a number of names are being "tossed around."
Another fellow who I think would be great for the job is James Coston , who is already on the ARC if I am not mistaken. But I understand he is a partner in a very busy Chicago law firm. I presume it would be very difficult for him to accept the job if offered.
What do you all think of my two candidates ? If not them, who else might you suggest ?
Also, WHO would appoint this new CEO ?

Tommy Thompson IS a good choice, but I don't know if Bush or his administration would let him take the position. He was forced off the Amtrak board by them last year. I think J.R. Smith would make a good chief.

James Coston of the ARC. He seems very agressive and has a can-do attitude. He loves trains and he is a real businessman. He has been wanting to be on the Amtrak board for years. There is a vacancy there, too, which he could fill nicely.
