Forgot to ask in my earlier posting. Will my cell phone work on the train?

Cell phones are OK on Amtrak. Using them on the trains doesn't interfere w/ RR communications like it does on airlines. Only problems will be w/ mountains, distance from repeaters etc.

Just to expand upon the previous post, your phone may not work if you're out in the middle of nowhere. If you need to make a call that could take a while, wait until you're travelling through a city or well-populated area. Tell whoever you're calling to expect interruptions in service! But you can use your phone at any time...one of the great things that rail travel has over air travel.

Thank god for passenger cellphones. With Amtrak taking away the conductor phones, the only way we know where the train is at is if passengers call people in the lobby.

Cellular phone use is not permitted in the "quiet cars" which operate along the Northeast Corridor (Boston-NY-Washington). This service may be expanded to elsewhere in the system, such as California corridor trains, in the near future. Cell phone use is allowed in other cars on that train.
