Does anyone know if the station at Maricopa, AZ has taxi service into Phoenix or Scottsdale. I am planning a trip to Phoenix next year and would like to know if I should go through Flagstaff or Maricopa. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.

Definitely go to the Maricopa station, as they have taxi service from there and I think Hertz will even pick you up there for a rental car.
Going to Phoenix via Flagstaff involves transfers to a bus takes a very long time.
Get off at Maricopa and get either a rental car or a taxi.

Depends also where you are traveling from. If you are coming from Illinois, the trip is one extra day travel. I took the trip from Illinois last year to Flagstaff, and Amtrak picked up the bus fare cost from Flag to Phoenix, although it required an overnight stay in Flag at a motel.I also agree that as far as I know there is no shuttle service from Maricopa to Phoenix, only cab or rental service.

Once upon a time Amtrak had a connecting (Thruway) bus service from Maricopa to Phoenix. This was introduced when the through route into the state capital was partially abandoned by Southern Pacific and Amtrak had to re-route the Sunset over the southern main. I don't recall when and why the bus was discontinued.
As far as I know there is still a Thruway connection from Flagstaff. There were frequent stops by buses at the Amtrak depot in Flag the last time I visited there, but I wasn't paying much attention to them.

I live in Phoenix. The last time I planned on taking the Sunset Limited I checked into thruway busses to Maricopa.
This seems strange to me: They had thruway busses between the Tucson station and Phoenix, but no thruway bus between the Maricopa station and Phoenix. And Maricopa is a lot closer to Phoenix than Tucson!

Once upon a time, Amtrak used to run into Phoenix, too...remember that? (They also stopped at Tempe, not too far from ASU, to boot.) Good old UP...

Oh, and didn't everyone always think of the SP as the "evil octopus" (so named for their myriad of lines eminating from San Francisco).

If you read my complete post, I continued to state

So, of course, I remember when Amtrak went to Phoenix.
Since I am relying on a sometimes faulty memory, I thought the abandonment of the eastern segment of the Phoenix Line occurred while it was still under SP's watch.
