On this evening's local NBC newscast in Orlando, a story was shown in which it was stated that "AMTRAK will not be shutting down this week after all." This was very encouraging news to me (my big trip begins Friday), but then later this evening I saw the AMTRAK news release (see my other topic for today "What happened today?"), which indicated to me that the shutdown has NOT been averted, just "delayed", and delayed for how long???? As I have said elsewhere, I believe it is unlikely that ANY service cuts will be made in the NEC or on the commuter lines in the NEC, but I would imagine the rest of the system WILL be shut down, and probably quite soon..... Any other takes on this?

I hope the long distance ones won't be shut down. You know, when I've ridden them, they've been pretty crowded so they're obviously being used. I'm with you, though, I'm pretty certain that NEC definitely will continue to operate.

Unfortunately, I think long distance trains will be the first ones stopped.

It looks like NewsHour with Lehrer (PBS) will (might?) have an Amtrak top story tonight. I'm not sure what it will be about, but could be interesting.

Board Member Sylvia De Leon and ARC President Tom Till were intereviewed. Nothing groundbreaking or insightful for anyone who participates in message boards such as here.
