It was reported on my local 11:00 news that the northbound Coast Starlight hit a big rig trailer at the Espinosa Road crossing between Salinas and Castroville (closer to Castroville). Nobody was hurt and the train went on its way eventually. This is one of those crossings where the tracks are parallel to a highway, and there isn't enough room for a long truck to clear the tracks when they stop at the highway.
The truck driver was interviewed on TV and he said he didn't see the train's lights when he looked down the track. Considering that the tracks there are as straight as you can get them, I would say he probably didn't look very hard.
I photographed #11 train there a few months ago so you can see what the crossing looks like
