Amtraks website says it was 6hrs 26 mins late at Buffalo-Depew, NY. Then it had no reading at Erie, PA. Now it shows it was 4hrs 22mins late at Cleveland, OH. That would mean it made up over 2 hrs of time. I know it can't. I think it was sometime of typo. I'm still going out to see it in Cleveland despite what the status says even though it would have came 25 mins ago! Do you guys think it was a typo? -Paul

Well, it came, 6hrs 40 mins late. It had a private car at the end. I believe it was a New York Central car tucked between the bagage car and the reefer or boxcar at the end. It was painted a dark brown color. Anyone know where its going?

What do the people on that train do if they have a connection to LA? Being that late there is no way! We are going to be on that train in Sept. on our way to Calif. If there is only one train between Chi. and LA a day what does a person do? Sideout

My wife and I will be on the LSL Sept. 6th from Bos.we will catch the SW Chief to Flagstaff in Chi. We have done this twice a year since retiring, we have never been that late. I think if the train is late they will hold it for what they consider a reasonable length of time. If it is real late I understand they will put you up in a hotel. So just enjoy the ride and hope for the best. Have a safe trip maybe we will run across esch other Jack M

I did not connect to any Western train, but in July I went from Boston to Chicago on Acela Regioanl #95 to connect to the Capitol Limited in Washington DC. The Capitol Limited arrived 2 hours late into Chicago wich still gives you 3-4 hours until the departure of the Southwest Chief (or other Western trains). It was also cheaper than taking the LSL straight through to the Windy City. On that day I heard over the scanner that the LSL was over 7 hours late.

Does anyone know what caused the train to be that late?.

CSX, what else? Otherwise it could have been equipment malfunction and/or the addition express shipping related.

The LSL's departure out of NYP on 7/3 was about 2 or 3 hurs late due to equipment not being ready, and more time lost along the way due to missing its time slot, then the last straw was the crew going "dead" somewhere in either Indiana or Ohio. This info was obtained from an Amtrak res. agent. I had been tracking the performance for a few weeks prior to my own trip. 3 days earlier it was over 8 hours late into Chicago due to engine failure between NYC & ALB.

That was the train I metioned, P049 that departed NYC on 7/3. I departed on the Capitol Lmited that same day. It wasn't until Indiana that I heard the train was running 6 hours late, but now I know why.

I was actually on the 'shore on 7/3, only the Boston section. We arrived Albany on-time just to wait for hours for the NY section to show up. I was travelling on to Schenectady, a mere 15 minutes away, but one piece of my luggage was checked, the other still on board above my seat! Amtrak offered me a cab to Schenectady but said that I could not recover my bags until it arrived there, because I had deboarded and the train was brought up away from the station. Not wanting to leave my bags unattended for so long, I opted to wait it out. I called a friend in Albany to come hang out with me and wait, and he offered to take me to my final destination. Since things had calmed down in the station, I politely harassed the station staff until they let me get on board and recover my bags, and my checked luggage as well. What a trip!!
I'll be on the LSL from SPG to Buffalo on the 29th, I hope the heat restrictions on CSX tracks have been lifted, or I'll be looking at a very late arrival in Buffalo..

I was on the Lakeshore Ltd. of the 15th of August from Penn Station to Buffalo. We left New York about four minutes late, Croton-Harmon on time, and then downhill from there. We arrived in Albany about two hours late, and got later and later. My sleeping car porter told me, as we approached Buffalo nearly six and a half hours late, that the last car on the train had a cracked wheel that was so serious we could have derailed. This car was removed somewhere in the night which was the reason (along with the extreme heat) that we were so late. I don't know which car he was talking about since in Albany there was private car New York Central #3 at the end. When I left the train in Buffalo (and thereby missing my 6:45 am train in Niagara Falls Ont. for Toronto)I did notice some sort of freight cars that I think were placed behind NYC #3. So what car was the bad car I could not say. As a final comment, I think it was very ill-advised for the porter to tell the passengers that we could have derailed. There was some hysterical person in bedroom "A" who was screaming "I want to get off this train it might derail." I tried to say that this almost never happens, but she was quite aware of the recent unpleasantness with the Auto Train and Capitol Limited. I wonder if she was related to the recent correspondent to this board known as "Scaredrider?"

Yikes! I guess I was luckier than I thought when I took the LSL from NY to Cleveland during the July 4th weekend.
My coach was barely half-filled with passengers until we reached Buffalo, and we pulled into Cleveland "only" an hour late. Just in time to see the sun come up.
