Man, how can you even compare Amtrak with Greyhound. I was on a short Greyhound ride this summer--in Canada--and thought I'd lose my mind.

I'm proud to say that I have never ridden Greyhound!

hello from England. I had a wonderful fortnight in the States back in May but the one lowlight was having to get from Des Moines to Osceola by bus to catch the Zephyr. Having two hours to kill at the Greyhound station in Des Moines was an experience in itself!!

I'm in the bus business, I would never ever Go Greyhound nowadays.
It's not like the 50s anymore, where the drivers took care of you and had some really spiffy coaches.

Greyhound has some ok segments. If you want to do a day trip involving the Sunset, Greyhound can come in handy. I did a same day round-trip from Benson, AZ using an Amtrak-Greyhound routing (my own, not a promoted one).

In southern Arizona and New Mexico the buses run on time, are reasonably clean, and the route on I-10 allows you to watch freights go by on the adjacent Sunset route...
