Here's an enjoyable read, "Mary Colter, Architect of the Southwest." Ms Colter, who
lived during the '20's, died at the ripe age
of 89, worked for Fred Harvey, designing
hotels and train stations (Southern Pacific)
as well as lookout site at the Grand Canyon.

Merry Merry!

Mary would turn over in her grave if given credit for SP hotels and restaurants. She was Santa Fe All The Way.

She was jointly employed by the railroad and Fred Harvey, that informal partnership which
has be given credit for "civilizing the West". She designed the MIMBRENO china for the Super Chief that is now the most collectible of all china used by railroads.

She began her employment at the beginning of the 20th century. Her last work was one of her favorites, the La Posada Hotel at Winslow
Arizona. It has been restored and is a great
stop for Santa Fe and Fred Harvey fans. There is an excellent restaurant and the entire hotel and grounds are first rate.

Thanks for the correction about "Santa Fe
all the way". Am still reading about this
very talented designer and architect.
Having tried to develop a train depot for
a small town I found it wasn't the train company that gave me grief, it was the little town's City Council.
