A friend and I are going to Chicago for a railfanning weekend. We will definately be taking the Lake Shore Limited to get there but are having a tough time trying to decide which route would be best to take back. I suggested taking the Lake Shore Limited back, but he wants to take the Capital Limited and Twilight Shoreliner back. Which routing would you guys suggest?

Take either the Capitol Ltd CHI-WAS or the Cardinal CHI-WAS, then you can catch one of several Acela Express/Regional trains (or the Shoreliner) back to BOS. The Cardinal probably has the best scenery, but is a slightly longer route than the Capitol (24 hours vs. 19)

Forget about the Three Rivers -- scenery is good, but services on trhe train are not as good.
