I understand that congress has approved $1.5 billion in funding for Amtrak. The money will "flow through" the Secretary of Transportation's office. Long distance routes will be considered individually for grant funding. How will this affect the long distance routes? What's the plan?

who knows for sure...but, in my opinion, it will have no direct affect on ld routes and the DOT will not interfere with Gunn's plans.

$1.09B was included in the $935B Omnibus funding Bill; also included therein is a grant to a "Cowgirl Museum" (Dale Evans rides again???) and for a study of the mating habits of catfish.

While 1.09 is not 1.2, payment of the "loan" of $100M (.1)from the DOT during last summer's "crisis" has been "deferred" (translation: forget it). Therefore the shortfall is $10M.

I think they can make it.
