Do any of you know how Amtrak feels about travelling with firearms?
I am planning to ride the Coast Starlight soon. I have not travelled after September 11, 2001. In the past, nobody ever checked for firearms, and if they were not allowed, the rule was never enforced. Are there any rules against firearms that are enforced now?
Thank you

Amtrak requires firearms to be registered and shipped in baggage car. Firearm must be torn down with firing mechanism disabled and no ammunition can be shipped. If caught on train with loaded or unloaded firearm then you had better be prepared to show valid permit or be ready to go to jail unless you are a law enforcement officer. Otherwise, Amtrak does not allow firearms on the trains unless they are carried by bonafied pre-approved law enforcement officers.

I was afraid it had come to that. Thank you especially Santa Fe 5704 for the information. I will call Amtrak about the procedures for checking my guns in the bagagge car.
