In 5 days my family and I will be starting our Amtrak journey northbound. We start off in Ft. Lauderdale and will be making a two day stop in New Orleans. We will continue on to Chicago then to our final train destination to St. Cloud,Mn. I have been reading the posts as well as adding questions of my own for the past two months preparing for this trip, wanting to be as informed as possible about all aspects of train travel. I want to thank everyone who has answered my posts with very helpful hints. My family and I are so looking forward to this trip (delays, problems and all ) It will definately be an enjoyable learning experience, having the foresite to know that not everything will probably go as scheduled, but knowing that we have a window of opportunity to spend that time together. Thanks again everyone, and with the words that I've seen a few people sign off....Happy Rails to You

I hope you have a great time. Please report back and let us know how things went. We look forward to trip reports, especially from first-timers who give us experienced riders a fresh perspective.

I hope your trip goes well. The main reason I'm responding is because this is the first time I've ever seen someone on this board refer to the St. Cloud station. I will be going on a trip from that station to Chicago and back in about a month. Afer your trip perhaps you could let me know what you know about both stations, especially the Chicago one, if there are any certain tips you feel you could give an inexperienced traveler along that line. And again, as I said, enjoy your trip!

TOMORROW,TOMORROW, We're leaving TOMORROW!!! I'm as excited as the kids!
EmpireBuilder: I do plan on sharing my experiences from this train trip, unfortunately, you'll probably have more knowledge of the St. Cloud station before me! Our train does not arrive there until 12:40 am (that is, if all goes according to schedule!) and we don't return until the 14th of August. I do know that the St. Cloud station is an unmanned station and that we have to carry our checked bags on with us from Chicago to St.Cloud. It should be a pretty ride at nite, though. Have a safe and pleasant trip!

Once again I hope you enjoy your trip. I also hope you enjoy my beautiful state of Minnesota where I have lived my entire life. If you think it's too perfect, come back during the winter sometime.
